Some of them focus only on the lowest price and end up with not so good experiences. On the other hand many people come here with the idea that Thailand is cheap, so they try to live like a royal and end up paying an unexpected amount of money.
Some of them prefer the ‘real authentic local experience’ but most of the time those kinds of experiences are too much for the foreigner, especially when you come from a well-developed country.
Since I am Thai, I can say that Thailand has everything to offer. Every kind of experience comes in every price range which is available for every traveler. The question you need to ask is what kind of experience are you expecting from traveling to Thailand.
