Prompong is a very vibrant area filled with everything you need. From fine dining and Michelin star restaurants to street food. From luxury brands to local products. From day until night activities. These are all waiting for you to discover and experience within walking distances. Here are 3 highlights of this area you should not miss.

Immerse Yourself to the Ultimate Shopping and Dining Experience at EmDistrict

What is EmDistrict? It is the commercial name of the area coined by The Mall Group who is the owner of the 3 shopping malls in this area: Emporium, EmQuartier and EmSphere. First, I felt like the owner of these shopping malls is crazy. They even attempted to change the name of the BTS skytrain station to this name. Later, I realised that the experiences from those 3 shopping malls is not far from what they describe as a “district”.

Why? I can tell you that each of the shopping malls has their own characteristics and focus on the different areas of shops and restaurants. Emporium is a luxury and exclusive shopping mall, offering high end brands and extensive shopping experience while EmQuartier focuses on premium brands and international dining experiences with wide ranges of restaurant options and EmSphere focuses on offering a modernized local dining experience and nightlife. For me, these combined shopping and dining experiences from each shopping mall in the area creates a sense of the district, which accommodates all kinds of people together in one place. No matter if you are a shopper who is looking for a luxury brand, or a food lover who is craving for food or a party lover, this “district” can cater to all the experience you want.

You can find out in each article of the shopping mall I wrote for more details of each shopping mall as well. Just click the link at the name of each shopping mall above.

Hop on Restaurants and Enjoy a Nightlife

The Prompong area is not only about shopping malls, but there are also various choices of restaurants and bars around, especially the rooftop bars. Some of them are located in a hotel, some of them are in a shopping mall, or some of them are independent. Bars in this area in my opinion are much better than bars in the other area. It is not a cheap bar filled with cheap local beer, half-naked ladies or aggressively hunting for the customer, but rather with good choices of beverages, contemporary music, and some place even has a theme which is a good sign of a quality.

If you want to enjoy restaurants outside of the shopping mall, there are plenty of those as well. Here is our list: https://maps.app.goo.gl/DTszTiWxkjD8GARq7

Stay in Prompong Area with Numerous Hotel Choices

Hotels you can find in this area are mostly global chain hotels, ranging from 3 to 5 stars. I still do recommend everyone to stay in a global chain hotel first, especially if you are traveling to Bangkok for the very first time as the quality of facilities, services as well as safety is more guaranteed. What surprises me a bit is the price of a hotel here is around 70-100 USD per night, of course it can go a bit higher if you choose a 5 stars hotel, but this price range is very much reasonable for the quality of the hotel and the surroundings which are filled with activities and green space at Benchasiri Park within walkable distance from any hotel in the area.

In terms of the location, the Prompong area is accessible by BTS skytrain and it is located only 1 station away from the Asok area where you can access to the MRT subway network. Here you can reach the other famous places in Bangkok like Central World, MBK and Bangkok Art and Culture Centre within 15 minutes. Or continue your journey with MRT to The Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun within 45 minutes.

It is quite convenient to be here from the airport as well with only around an hour by airport link to Phaya Thai and transit to the BTS skytrain system.

How to get there?

  • BTS
This is the most convenient way to come to the Prompong area. The train station is right in the middle of the area where you can access every place within a walking distance. Get off the BTS skytrain at Prompong station. Here you walk towards the exit no. 1, 2, 5 and 6 and use the skywalk to access the Emporium, EmQuartier, EmSphere and Benchasiri Park.
  • MRT
If you stay in another location where MRT is more convenient for you, you can take MRT to Sukhumvit station. From here you can take the BTS skytrain from Asok to Prompong station, which is only 1 station and the cost should be 17 THB (~0.5 USD) per single ride per person.
Alternatively, you can walk from MRT Sukhumvit station which is around 1 kilometer to Prompong. I recommend using the exit no. 2 from the MRT Asok, to avoid crossing at the Asok intersection. This will take too much time to wait as the traffic is really bad.
  • Airport Link
If you come to the airport, you can take the Airport Link from Suvarnabhumi airport (BKK) to Phaya Thai station. From here you need to do a transit to the BTS skytrain system by walking down to the concourse level. At the same level, you can access the BTS skytain system at BTS Phaya Thai station. Buy a new ticket at the BTS station to Prompong. The cost should be 47 THB (~1.4 USD) per single ride per person. This should take another 15 minutes from the Airport Link station, which is very quick.
