Vibe of the SWU Night Market.
Vibe of the SWU Night Market.

It is rare to find a night market in the middle of a commercial office district because everyone always has a duty after work, especially on Friday night, and the area is usually left with very very few people after work! But it looks like the Srinakharinwirot University – SWU or “Mor Sor Wor” in short, thinks differently and transforms its massive open space at the center of the university to be a night market every Friday night. Here is what you can experience in this night market.

Food, food and food

At SWU night market here they offer only food and drinks. There will be many food stalls for you to buy, ranging from small snacks, proper Thai street food dishes, drinks and desserts. You can buy and eat at the central lawn. The stalls here are temporary, meaning some stalls are gone next week and some are new to the night market, similar to every night market so you will never get bored and always get the new feeling every time you visit.

The most popular shop of all time is the kebab shop at the very front of the market. You can see from the queue which is so long and the price is very nice compared to the quantity of beef you will get.

Fruit juices can be found everywhere. Remember to always ask for the less sweet as a normal shop, especially the stall, usually makes it very sweet.

Mini Concert

On a special occasion, the university will arrange a mini concert at the central lawn where you can enjoy live music and food at night. Don’t expect much because the scale is pretty small and it’s very casual, more like you are going to a picnic at night. Honestly speaking, since I have been here many times, I still don’t know when or which Friday is considered as a ‘special occasion’. Anyway, on a normal occasion, the stage will turn into a place where students who have dreams can come and perform.

The weather is hot at night. You can sit on the lawn in front of the stage and enjoy. Unfortunately, the university does not allow alcohol drinking and you cannot find anywhere to buy within 300 metres from the institution as well due to the regulation.

Opening hours

The night market usually starts around 17:00 until 21:00, every Friday except on public holidays. Sometimes if the public holiday is Thursday or Monday, there is no market as well due to less students and office workers in the area.

Each stall may open or close slightly earlier or later than the opening hours above.

Entrance fee

No entrance fee. Just walk in and buy something!
